A Sound Aside, was the opening act for The Rocket Summer’s show in Anaheim, on the 9th, during the special Calendar Days/Hello, Good Friend tour. We made contact with the band and they were beyond nice in granting us a couple answers to some of our questions, check the interview below:

Interview with the band, A Sound Aside

01) You’ve known each other since pre-school, but the band was only formed during the senior year, right? How did you come up with its idea? Tell us a little bit about A Sound Aside’s history.

Yeah we have known each other since pre-school, Michael, Cody, and Connor were really into sports growing up and I (Chris) was not so much, probably because I am the most unathletic person you will ever meet. So there was always tension it felt like cause the three of them where in the cool sports crowd and I was in “loser” crowd hahah. High School rolled around and they all continued to play sports, but we hung out a lot more once high school started. We all grew up in Christian homes so we first played together in our sunday services for our church. That brought us really close together and was an awesome experience and we still every once in a while play at our churches. But senior year rolled around and Michael (who we call Verb) and Cody(who we call Nadeau) started writing there own music together, it was really good Jack Johnson, John Mayer type stuff. Connor (who we call Mills) and I(Brown) both played guitar. We tossed around the idea of starting a band, and the next thing you know we were writing music as a band. Mills had never touched a drum set and I had never touched a bass. Three weeks later we played our first show.

02) How do you define the music you make and which/who are your main influences?

I think the music we make is something that we are all really proud of. We have tried to answer this question numerous times to people, but the problem is that ever member will tell define our music in completely different words. Which is cool cause we all like the same music but we all are into different genres, I think all our different interest come out into the music when we write. We all are into the Kings of Leon, Coldplay, The Fray, John Mayer but again those are just some of the big names. We are influenced by some many different kinds of music I don’t think we could list them all, trust me when I say that its varied.

03) With which bands would you like to share the same stage or even having a partnership?

I think it would be really cool to play with The Kings of Leon, The Fray, John Mayer, Jacks Mannequin to name a few.

04) You’ll probably get tired of answering it, but, if you weren’t musicians. What would you like to work with?

Michael: Thats hard to say I really don’t think I would do anything else but music.

Connor: I would probably fish, I love to fish, fishing is the best thing that ever happened to me.

Cody: I grew up playing basket ball and still play in pick up games a couple times a week, so I would probably pursue that.

Chris: I dont know what I would do, music is a really big part of my life and always has been, its hard to imagine not doing anything in music. But I am really interested in psychology, I think it would be really cool to pursue something in that.

05) You supported The Rocket Summer in Anaheim on the 9th, how was the concert and the public’s reaction?

This was the second time we have played with The Rocket Summer each time we have all been blown away at the way the crowd reacts, they sing every word at the top of their lungs. TRS fans are some of the nicest people hands down you will ever meet.

06) Did you have the chance of meeting Bryce or watching The Rocket Summer’s concert? If the answer is yes, tell us how it had been.

Yeah, again this was the second time. Bryce is a really awesome dude. Five minutes around him, and you can tell that he genuinely cares about everybody.

07) Brazil has entered in a lots of bands’ route of concerts, for pocket shows and huge presentations. Would you like to play here someday? What do you know about Brazil?

I think anybody would be crazy to not want to come to Brazil and play music. We dont know to much on a first hand basis, but we watch a ton of National Geographic, so we know what they tell us hahha. But we hear that it is an amazing place.
